Local Candies Part I

I recently bought a batch of different types of snacks and candies from a local candy-maker. It's called "Yang Hua Cake House". According to the stall owner, they have a permanent stall at Anchor Point, with pop-up stalls at the Takashimaya basement (three times annually), and the JCube basement. I've patronised their Taka stall before, but this was the first time I saw them at JCube and bought so much from them.

There're a total of seven types of products that I bought, so I'll break it up into two posts. Today, we'll take a look at three different types of peanut candies or snacks.

Peanut Roll

This is the more common one, which I'd tried before on many occasions and seen sold elsewhere.
Peanut rolls sprinkled with white sesame seeds.
This snack had a soft and slightly chewy consistency to it, with a hint of being stringy. I believe they use molasses and a bit of flour for the texture. It also has grainy bits of peanuts and sesame seeds, which add that extra pop as you chew on it.

Its flavour is the standard sweet peanut and sesame combination - a very complementary one that's used in many snacks from the region, especially around East Asia. But it wasn't too sweet, so it was done very well.

Overall, highly recommended... definitely a family favourite!

Peanut Candies

Next, we have two varieties of peanut candies.

2 types of peanut candies.
The brownish one at the bottom is like a crunchy version of the peanut roll - same peanut-sesame flavour, but I think they didn't mix as much flour into the molasses, so its texture was more like hard-candy. Mixed with the peanuts and sesame, it became more crunchy. Quite nice, but a little on the sweet side.

The whitish one on top was like a sweeter and smoother version as the peanut roll. Similar in texture... kinda chewy like soft nougat, but not so sticky. There was also an orange peel flavour to it. Quite nice too, but again it was a tad to sweet for my preference.

Nonetheless, worth trying overall!
