Was at Indocafe recently, and got a chance to try their chendol panna cotta. Chendol is a local dessert made from the combination of coconut milk, gula melaka, pandan jelly and red bean. So this Indo-Cafe panna cotta version basically turned the coconut milk into a pudding version, while everything else remains the same.
I decided to feature this not because it was good... it was quite bad actually. The flavours just didn't seem to be brought out well, so it was just vague coconut-flavoured cream, with a hint of pandan. And the gula melaka (which you're supposed to add for yourself) was just floating off somewhere rather than really blending in. Not to mention that they gave that little bit of it in the background for everyone (on a table of 7) to share, when perhaps a more appropriate serving would have been one per person? So the normal chendol dessert would probably have been better.
BUT, I thought it was a good idea, and I have indeed tried a successful version before at Relish @ Cluny Court. That was really creamy and did indeed take the chendol experience up a notch. However, that was before I started taking photos of food... oh well.
