There is an interesting flavour pairing among some cafe chains in Japan combining peach and earl grey. Both Starbucks and Tully's Coffee feature a Peach and Earl Grey Tart. (Starbucks' is specifically called "White Peach & Earl Grey Tart".) It seemed like a promising pairing so I tried the Tully's version.
I thought it was executed very well.
When I popped the first mouthful in, there was a very rich and aromatic fragrance of exotic floral, herby and citrus notesfrom the earl grey, with earthy notes from the tea and fruity notes of stone fruit from the peach. The aromatic combination was so lush and intricate that it really reminded me of some verbana or lemongrass essential oil fragrances when you walk by spas and essential oil shops.
As you can see in the picture, you can also see chunks of peach, so that was nice.
I didn't really notice the cream, because the milk earl grey tea cream probably masked it.
The tart base, however, wasn't particularly nice. It was just average. There was no buttery taste and no crunch or crisp. Despite that, it was not very moist either. So the main star was actually the filling that sat on top of it.
Overall, it does seem like peach and earl grey is a wonderful pairing as the bright and fruity peach broadens out the earl grey's fragrance. If you love lush, intricate and aromatic fragrances in your desserts, this is definitely an interesting one to try.
