I finally managed to try Mister Donut's Kokuto Pon de Ring and Honey Old-Fashioned. I quite liked these regular flavours at Mr Donut, and it was my first time trying them.
Kokuto Pon de Ring
The Kokuto Pon de Ring was a very good spin on Mr Donut's signature offering.
The burnt caramel, malt and rum-like notes added delightful complexity and went well with the earthy, nutty and whole wheat-like notes of the tapioca starch used to make Pon de Ring.
The texture was also nice, with a clean and sharp crust and a mochi-like bounce inside. I can't really call the exterior crunchy or crispy, but there was a clean bite to it.
Honey Old-Fashioned
I also took the chance to try the Honey Old-Fashioned. Old-fashioned donuts aren't as common these days, so I was delighted to try this different flavour.
The honey was nutty and very rich and fragrant. It paired very well with the malty donut notes. There was also some honey-like syrup glistening inside after I had bitten into it.
It was sweet, but perhaps they used some salt as it didn't come across as cloying at all. I felt it was well-balanced.
Finally, this was the overall order with the coffee. It was a very nice combination of items overall.
