Cloud Cold Brew by Luckin Coffee

This was another interesting combination by Luckin. It is a cheese foam cold brew coffee. While it might seem like a standard cloud drink, usually cold brews tend to be offered by Western coffee chains, while the "cloud" part, which is really like a cheese foam, is usually offered by Oriental milk tea chains. So I haven't noticed this particular combination much.

I was super happy that they had a no syrup option, so I went for that. And I totally loved it.

The "cloud" milk foam itself (tasted without the coffee) was satisfyingly salty, true to the "cheese foam" formula, which I think is a lovely combination with milk in drinks. As expected, the creaminess resembled that of cheese rather than milk or butter, something like a liquefied cream cheese icing, but with more salt and less sugar.

After mixing it in, it was excellent.

It tasted like a very well-balanced cafe au lait, with the coffee sporting dark chocolate notes, a hint of floral cherry and the slightest hint of sour acidity which was perfect and added complexity to the good balance. It reminded me of Japanese iced white filter coffees, such as Kurasu Coffee, Takagi Coffee or perhaps Tiong Hoe Specialty Coffee (which is local). It wasn't so intense, but the coffee is prominent and complex.

(The in-app description claimed that it was caramel-nutty in flavour, but I didn't experience it that way. It's possible that my sense of taste was biased by tasting the cheese foam first.)

I actually regret trying the cloud cream first, because I didn't notice the salt from the cloud after mixing it in, probably because it got diluted. The cloud cream bunched up below, so it filled my mouth with the first mouthful from the straw.

So I recommend mixing it thoroughly first before drinking. If you want to know how the cloud cream tastes, you can lick it off the cover after you are done. Otherwise, tasting the intense cream might dull your taste buds for the drink. I will want to try this again and mix it thoroughly before taking my first sip!

Cloud Cold Brew by Luckin Coffee - after mixing

And this was its colour after mixing - more like a cafe au lait than a latte.

In summary, this is highly recommended. The price was also slightly lower than their standard offerings, so that was nice.

If you like savoury lattes, check out their Pandan Coconut Latte as well.
