I saw a season-limited flavour of Haagen-Dazs ice cream in a convenience store in Japan, called Nou Mitsu Imo Ice Cream (濃密いも), which means Dense Honey Sweet Potato Ice Cream, or specifically varieties of sweet potato that are known for their dense and sweet, honey-like texture when cooked. These are specifically the annou sweet potato and beni haruka sweet potato, which are both used in this ice cream.
When I opened the lid, I also saw that it was not a normal plain flavoured cream, but that it actually had some syrup-like sauce on top of it.
The taste was splendid - there were the distinctive and delightful flavour of yellow sweet potato, with notes of honey and caramel over a nutty and earthy body. Since it is yellow sweet potato, it leaned more creamy and fragrant than burnt or dark.
There was a very nice balance of creaminess and sweet potato imo flavour. It also strangely didn't feel too sweet despite the syrup-looking sauce on top.
Looking at the ingredients (click photo below to enlarge), true to Haagen-Dazs form, mostly natural or pure ingredients were used. It referred to the sauce on top as a sweet potato dense (honey-like) sauce. This was the second ingredient, so I think it was also mixed into the main ice cream and not just the topping. The sauce ingredients were beni haruka sweet potato paste, annou imo sweet potato paste, sugar, glucose/grape sugar and mizuame. In addition, under the main ingredients section, there was another mention of beni haruka sweet potato puree, so it seems that the dominant flavour was beni haruka over the annou imo. Of course, it has the normal other ice cream ingredients such as egg and cream (first on the list), and a bit of colouring.
Finally, here is a close-up photo of the cap for reference.
