I saw this at JEM's Don Don Donki sometime back and HAD to try it. Japanese crab ice cream, with salt from Republic of Kiribati or Christmas Island... I have no idea why that is special though. It's by Tomoda Sailing, which specializes in crab and seafood, rather than ice cream or desserts.
Plus check out the natural ingredients... Fresh cream and 紅ズワイ蟹 (beni-zuwaigani or red snow crab or Chionoecetes japonicus). I've never even eaten it as a savoury meal I think... To think that my first time trying it is as an ice cream! (Click the photo to enlarge.)
Taste-wise, I absolutely loved it!!! Savoury, with a bit of sweetness. Like a cross between a crab bisque and cream of tomato soup! Although there's no tomato. Like an extremely nice hors d'oeuvre or canapes spread. There's a significant amount of real crab bits too! I can totally imagine this as a gourmet dessert or appetizer offering at a premium Michelin star restaurant!
And for the novelty and quality, it was dirt cheap. I can't remember the exact price but I'm quite sure it was under S$5 when I got it in Feb this year. I checked again recently and Suntec City Donki is selling a rebranded version for S$4.90. So it was an absolute steal.
