Ruskology 203 - Blond Chocolate Coating - Gouter de Roi Soleil by Gateau Festa Harada

Gateau Festa Harada had this other "blond" chocolate variety of their rusk, and for a while I hadn't been interested in it as I thought it was just a mix of milk and white chocolate. But after examining the description and ingredients list, what makes this pop is the little bit of salt they add to it. The blond chocolate was apparently co-developed with a top French chocolate brand to feature the rich blond colour and be especially velvet smooth in texture. It was developed after the Milk and White Chocolate versions, according to their website.

This one's also fancy because they specially printed the sun motif (which is what "soleil" means), and sprinkled some gold leaf dust on it. It is named after France's King Louis XIV who was apparently known as the Sun King and was the longest-reigning sovereign. He was known for an opulent lifestyle, so naming this after him is meant to symbolise prestige as a fancy corporate gift. It is also seasonal and only available from Nov to late-Apr each year.
Gateau Rusk - Gouter de Roi SoleilA pleasant royal blue and golden sun for the packaging.
In terms of taste, it had the usual Gateau Festa Harada high standards of pastry excellence, so I won't elaborate further on stuff like texture, buttery flavour and so on.
It upkeeps GFH's high rusk standards but packs in a slight savoury and grainy hint.
The blond chocolate taste was mostly like white chocolate with a more salty and slightly grainy taste, and the salt combined made it taste a bit like malt, such as Horlicks or Ovaltine.

I also thought the savoury aspect of this chocolate coating went very well with the butter and salt of the piece of rusk. I probably prefer it over the white chocolate version, which felt like just pure sweetness and creaminess to me. But it probably ties with the milk chocolate version.

Still, definitely worth a try!
