Black Truffle Savoury Cookies

Tried this tin of black truffle savoury cookies from Old Seng Choong. I couldn't find this flavour anymore (appears sold out) but you can check out some of their other flavours here

Will just say straight up that this is one of my favourite savoury cookies, although I'm not fond of cookies in general. I'd recommend it as a gift anytime, because of the nice packaging, unique gourmet flavour and on point execution.

In the ingredients list, besides truffle and olive oils, they also have truffle paste and actual black summer truffles. Besides that, they also have interesting ingredients such as mushroom, parmesan cheese and chicken meat and fat, so it's definitely not vegetarian. Flavourings include a whole range of natural ingredients, such as parsley, garlic, soy sauce (!!) and onion. I find it immensely intriguing that an Asian sauce was used in this otherwise Mediterranean-seeming list of ingredients. They used charcoal powder for the black colour. Also interestingly, they didn't have butter on the list (and they definitely didn't use anything cheap like margarine of course). And oh yes, there's walnut in this too, although it's more for the texture in my opinion than any actual flavour.

Taste-wise, it was every bit as umami, savour and full as I would expect from the ingredients list! The truffle flavour was very strong and thick, not like the usually thin/trace truffle flavour in fries flavoured only with the oil. It complemented the cheese and other umami flavours well! Because it's savoury, it feels like you could actually eat a lot of them, like a hearty main meal instead of a smaller-portioned dessert.
