Original Avocado Yogurt Shake by More Yogurt

More Yogurt is (apparently) China's largest fresh-made yogurt beverage chain. They use naturally fermented yogurt. While I had tried avocado milk shakes, the yogurt version seemed like an interesting twist, and this brand allowed me to request for 0 added sugar, so I thought to try.

Despite there not being an obvious queue, and almost not having to wait to pay up, I ended up waiting quite a long time for my drink. I didn't track the time, but it felt like at least 10 to 20 minutes. From observing their operations, it seems to be because they assemble each cup individually and blend it, as opposed to having any dispensers. They also chop the avocados manually to place them as toppings on the shakes, as you can see from the image below.

The first thing to note, is that while there is no added sugar to the blend, there seems to already be some sugar in the yoghurt, because I could taste some sweetness. But the zero added sugar level was perfect for me. Overall, comparing it with the sweetness levels of other drinks and what I observe of their published sugar volumes, it felt like a 2% sugar volume (like the Nutrigrade labels in Singapore), which is lower than most drinks. (For comparison, it was even less sweet than any "least sweet" drink I have tried from Luckin.)

The yogurt flavour was mostly like the typical commercial plain yogurt you might get at the supermarket, but with a hint of the herby Yakult (or probiotic) frozen yogurt taste, so it was quite an interesting blend. Note that this was me trying to isolate the yogurt taste from the overall blend, so I might not be completely accurate, but this was how the yogurt flavour came through to me.

The grassy avocado flavour blended with the cultured yogurt notes for an overall rather complex and herby effect.

The avocado was nutty, beany, buttery and slightly earthy, and these notes combined with the creaminess of the yogurt to form a well-rounded rich and creamy body that was nonetheless complex.

The grassy notes of the avocado also combined with the cultured Yakult-like notes of the yogurt quite interestingly, so the complexity was enhanced.

The texture was especially remarkable. There were absolutely no large or chunky ice crystals, unlike other smoothies, but I did notice some mouthfuls with very tiny and fine ice crystals like in smooth frozen yogurts or sorbets. These parts with the fine ice crystals weren't evenly distributed, and seemed to occur only in some mouthfuls. Apart from those, the texture was completely smooth, thick and creamy.

Overall, I absolutely loved this, and believe I will be back to try their other flavours.
