This is a continuation of my post on MOS Burger's vegetable-flavoured treats (on Spinach Vegetable Milk Shake), a special menu to commemorate their birthday on 12 March. This time, I tried their purple potato vegetable waffle. The other flavours they had were carrot and spinach - similar to their milk shakes, but I couldn't try all in one visit.
The purple potato waffle had a very pleasant and bright purple colour. I wouldn't be surprised if it was 100% natural, as Japanese purple sweet potato really is that vivid in colour. It also came with vanilla ice cream, some large fresh mint leaves, fresh dragon fruit and mango sauce drizzle.
I went straight for the purple potato waffle. It had an amazing flavour as a waffle - fragrant with a sweet and creamy taste, although initially I thought the purple potato wasn't as prominent as I had expected.
Nonetheless, after a few bites, there was a distinct purple potato taste, just that it complemented the wheat taste so much that it blended it. The purple potato contributed to the sweet honey-like fragrance of the batter, and there was a slight smooth root flavour of the purple sweet potato in the waffle too. I think this explains why the overall waffle taste was so good, with the naturally sweet fragrance and creamy taste standing out more than other waffles.
The only lacking thing was that it wasn't as crispy as it could have been. Perhaps they took too long to decorate it.
But this idea of flavouring waffles with purple sweet potato is a really great one that enhances the overall waffle experience, and I feel it could be incorporated as a base flavour of a gourmet waffle.
The other toppings were good as well in a standard way - I loved the fresh mint leaves, and I enjoyed the dragon fruit.
Overall, a lovely dish especially for the price, and I hope to visit again and try the other 2 vegetable waffle flavours - carrot and spinach, before they're taking off the menu. (Click menu photo to enlarge.)
